Commercial Putting Green Installation

If you manage a property and you’re weighing a putting green as an amenity, you already know the basic pitch: low maintenance, year-round use, something guests and tenants actually notice. What most companies won’t tell you upfront is that commercial greens live or die on the base work underneath them, not the turf on top. That’s the part we spend the most time getting right.

Artificial Turf NY has been designing and installing synthetic turf across Long Island and the New York City area since 2010. We build commercial putting greens for office parks, hotels, HOA common areas, country clubs  and golf training facilities and every green we install is custom fit to the space and the traffic it needs to handle.

What Counts as a Commercial Putting Green

A commercial putting green is any synthetic golf surface built for a business, association or public-facing property rather than a private backyard. That covers a wide range of jobs: a rooftop green for a hotel amenity deck, a courtyard green for an apartment community, a full practice facility for a golf club or a small chipping and putting area tucked into an office campus.

The engineering underneath changes depending on where the green sits and how many people will use it. A green that sees a handful of residents a day doesn’t need the same base depth or drainage capacity as one used daily by dozens of guests or students. We size the base, the drainage layer and the turf specification to the actual use case, not a one-size template.

Curious what this looks like on a smaller scale first? Our backyard putting green installations use the same core construction methods, just at residential scale.

Properties We Build Commercial Greens For

If your project falls under a broader commercial scope beyond just the green, our commercial artificial turf installation team can handle surrounding lawn, patio turf and putting surfaces as one coordinated project. Multifamily managers should also take a look at our turf solutions for HOAs and multifamily properties and municipal contacts can review our municipal and public-space turf page for procurement details.

How We Design and Build a Commercial Green

Every commercial putting green project starts the same way: a phone call with our project manager to talk through what you’re trying to accomplish, followed by an in-person site visit. We measure the space, walk the grade, check drainage paths and note anything that affects access, whether that’s a rooftop hoist, tight courtyard access or a loading dock schedule.

From there, the build generally follows this sequence:

You’ll get a detailed written contract before any work starts, so there’s no ambiguity about scope, timeline or what’s included. Most residential-scale greens take one to two business days once we’re on site; larger commercial builds vary based on square footage and site conditions and we’ll give you a realistic window during the estimate.

Want to understand the technical side of turf selection first? Our putting green turf specifications page breaks down pile height, backing and surface speed in plain terms.

Built for Daily Use, Not Just a Showpiece

A commercial green gets walked on, putted on and rained on far more often than a backyard green ever will. We build ours with that in mind: a compacted, well-drained base underneath, durable putting-grade fiber on top and edge and seam work that holds up under repeated foot traffic. Proper drainage is especially important on rooftop and terrace installs, where standing water can damage the roofing membrane below the turf, so we coordinate that detail with building management before installation begins.

For properties considering a rooftop or terrace amenity space, our rooftop, balcony  and patio turf page covers hoisting logistics and membrane protection in more detail.

What Drives the Cost of a Commercial Putting Green

Every commercial green is priced individually because every site is different. Square footage is the starting point, but the real cost drivers are usually the base work: how much excavation is needed, whether drainage panels or shock pads are required, how difficult site access is and how custom the contouring needs to be. Rooftop jobs with material hoisting or tight courtyard access with limited staging space typically run higher than a straightforward at-grade install.

We don’t publish flat pricing because a quote based on square footage alone would almost always be wrong for a commercial site. What we do instead is provide a free, no-obligation estimate after seeing the space, so the number you get actually reflects your project. Quotes are valid for 30 days and typically require a deposit to schedule the work.

Managing a project across several properties or coordinating for a client? Our turf resources for contractors, architects  and developers page is built specifically for that kind of planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

With proper base preparation and routine grooming, a well-built commercial green holds up for many years of regular use. Lifespan depends heavily on traffic volume and how consistently the surface is maintained, which we’ll discuss during your site visit.

Yes. Rooftop and concrete installations are common for us, though they require extra planning around drainage, membrane protection, and material access. We coordinate directly with building management when a project involves elevator or hoisting logistics.

Higher traffic and rooftop greens generally need a more robust drainage layer than a residential backyard green. We assess this during the site evaluation and build the base accordingly rather than using a single standard specification for every job.

Smaller residential-style greens typically take one to two business days. Larger commercial builds take longer depending on square footage, site access, and weather. You’ll get a specific timeline estimate before work begins.

Yes. We regularly work with property managers, HOA boards, developers, and general contractors, and we’re comfortable navigating board approvals and site logistics that come with managed properties.

Payment terms, including deposit structure, are discussed during your estimate. Reach out through our contact page and we’ll walk you through the options for your project.
