Artificial Turf Landscape Design in Massapequa & Long Island, NY
If your lawn spends more time as a mud pit or a patchy, weed-filled mess than an actual place to sit outside, you’re not alone. It’s the number one reason Long Island homeowners call us. Artificial Turf NY has been designing and installing synthetic grass systems since 2010, and in that time we’ve completed more than 500 residential and commercial projects across Nassau County, Suffolk County, Brooklyn, Queens, Westchester, and the five boroughs. We’re a family-run company based in Massapequa, and every install is handled start to finish by our own trained crew, not a rotating cast of subcontractors.
This page walks through how artificial turf landscape design actually works, the layouts we build most often, what drives the cost of a project, and what to expect once you call us. If you’d rather skip ahead, our team is one phone call away.
Why More Long Island Homeowners Are Redesigning with Synthetic Grass
Natural grass on Long Island fights an uphill battle: heavy clay soil, salt air near the coast, shade from mature trees, and a short growing season that leaves lawns brown for half the year. Artificial turf landscaping sidesteps all of that. Once it’s installed correctly, with the right base and drainage underneath it, a synthetic lawn looks green and full in January and July alike, and it never needs fertilizer, pesticides, or a Saturday morning spent mowing.
That said, artificial grass landscaping is only as good as the design and prep work behind it. A lawn that isn’t graded properly will hold water. Seams that aren’t secured correctly will show. This is really a construction project with a finished landscape as the result, and that’s how we approach every artificial turf installation we take on.
Landscape Design Ideas We Build Across Long Island and NYC
Backyards. This is where most families want the biggest transformation, whether that’s a play space for kids, a low-maintenance entertaining area, or a yard that finally stands up to a dog running laps. See more on our backyard and front yard turf installations page.
Front yards, side yards, and courtyards. Narrow side yards and small courtyards are often the hardest spots to keep looking decent with real grass, since they get uneven light and heavy foot traffic near doors and gates. Turf handles both without complaint.
Shaded yards. If tree cover has left bare, mossy patches under a canopy, synthetic grass solves a problem real sod can’t: it doesn’t need sunlight to survive.
Turf around garden beds. We regularly design layouts that frame planting beds, walkways, and existing landscaping rather than replacing the whole yard, so your flower beds and shrubs stay exactly where they are.
Turf over concrete, decks, and patios. A worn concrete slab or an old patio doesn’t have to be demolished. In many cases we can install turf directly over it with the right cushioning underlayment, instantly softening a hard, gray space. This works especially well for rooftop, balcony, and patio turf projects where weight and drainage matter.
Turf and Paver Landscape Design
Pavers and artificial turf are a natural pairing, and it’s one of the most requested designs we build. Combining the two lets us create curved walkways, defined seating areas, and fire pit surrounds without the mud, staining, or slippery moss growth that shows up where grass meets stone. Turf installed between pavers also eliminates the gaps where weeds usually take hold, which is one of the biggest maintenance headaches with a traditional paver patio.
Because every yard’s paver layout is different, we measure and template the space on-site so seams follow your existing hardscape lines instead of cutting across them. You can browse real examples of this approach in our project case studies.
How Our Design and Installation Process Works
It starts with a phone call to our project manager, who talks through what you’re picturing for the space and schedules a site visit. That visit can be in person or handled remotely for straightforward projects. On-site, we measure the yard, check drainage and grading, and walk you through turf samples so you can see and feel the product before committing to anything.
From there you get a written estimate with a detailed scope of work, no guesswork, no vague line items. Once you approve it, installation typically takes one to two business days for a residential yard, though timing can shift with weather or site conditions like heavy slopes or difficult access. Every project includes removal of the old surface, excavation, base compaction, proper grading for drainage, seam and edge work, infill, and a final walkthrough with you before we consider the job done.
Estimates and consultations are always free, and there’s no minimum project size, so a small side yard gets the same attention as a full backyard renovation. Learn more about our full process on the artificial turf installation page.
Proudly Serving Long Island, NYC and Westchester
We design and install artificial turf landscapes throughout Nassau County and Suffolk County, including Massapequa, Garden City, Long Beach, Manhasset, Great Neck, Rockville Centre, Huntington, Smithtown, East Hampton, and Southampton, along with Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Westchester County. If you’re not sure whether your neighborhood falls inside our service area, check the full list on our service area page or just give us a call.
What Affects the Cost of a Landscape Turf Design
We don’t publish flat pricing, because two yards that look similar on the surface can cost very differently once you factor in what’s actually involved. Project size is obviously part of it, but so is the turf product you choose, how much existing material needs to come out, base depth, drainage needs, site access, and details like curves, seams, and edging around pools, garden beds, or hardscape. Rooftop and terrace projects add considerations like material hoisting and building access.
The good news is you don’t have to guess. Every quote is free, valid for 30 days, and built from actual measurements taken at your property, not a rough estimate over the phone. We ask for a 50 percent deposit to schedule the work and accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash.
Built on Experience, Backed by a Warranty
Fifteen years and 500-plus completed projects means we’ve seen just about every yard condition Long Island can throw at us, from steep slopes to heavy tree roots to postage-stamp city courtyards. Turf products we install carry a manufacturer warranty of 8 to 10 years, and that coverage is transferable if you sell your home. We stand behind our own workmanship as well, and we’ll walk you through exactly what’s covered before any work begins.

Keeping Your New Landscape Looking Its Best
One of the biggest advantages of a turf landscape design is how little upkeep it needs compared to natural grass. An occasional brush with a power broom keeps fibers standing upright, and infill gets topped off periodically to maintain drainage and cushioning. No mowing, no reseeding, no weekly watering. Full details are on our turf maintenance and infill replacement page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does artificial turf get too hot to walk on?
Heat is a fair question, especially with full sun exposure. The product, infill choice, and placement near reflective surfaces like glass or concrete all play a role, and it’s something we discuss during your site visit so the design accounts for it rather than becoming a surprise in July.
How does drainage work under a turf landscape?
Every installation starts with a properly graded base and drainage layer underneath the turf itself, so water moves through rather than pooling on top. This matters just as much for a small courtyard as it does for a full backyard.
Can turf be installed between pavers or around an existing patio?
Yes. It’s one of our most common requests. We template around your existing hardscape so the turf follows your paver lines instead of cutting through them, which also gets rid of the weeds that usually grow in paver gaps.
Will artificial turf work over concrete, a deck, or a rooftop?
In most cases, yes, with the right underlayment and drainage planning. Rooftop and elevated spaces need extra coordination around building access and material transport, which we handle as part of the project.
How long does a residential installation take?
Most residential yards are completed in one to two business days once the project starts, depending on size and site conditions.
Is there a minimum project size?
No. We take on everything from a small side yard to full-property commercial installations, and every quote is free regardless of size.

EXCELLENT Based on 25 reviews Posted on Google paul vTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Working with Artificial Tuft NY was an amazing experience. Eric came by and gave me an honest reasonable quote. The job was completed in a timely manner (I had to delay it and they were very accommodating). The crew that installed my putting green, lead by Adolfo, were hard working guys who took so much time making sure that all of my ideas came together seamlessly. The job took only 2 days to complete and when it was finished it looked fabulous. I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Artificial Turf NY. After I completed the landscaping, the entire project couldn’t have been better. It was like hitting a hole in one in my backyard!Posted on Google Liz RobinsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Artificial Turf NY did a great job with our small yard. Good communication with the company/staff. The crew that came to do the job was wonderful - a courteous, respectful and gracious group of men! Because of the small space the job was done in one day and looks fantastic! Very pleased and would highly recommend! Thank you Eric and Juliann 😁Posted on Google Richard SabatinoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys are top notch! I hired them for two different jobs. The First was outside my property along the street for new turf. It came out amazing. I re-hired them to redo the entire turf project that was done in my backyard by somebody prior to them who did not do a good job. They ripped it all up, dug it out, redid all the RCA and dirt and then reinstalled the turf and made it look better than the guy who did it originally. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend themPosted on Google Kevin FTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Eric and his crew did a fantastic job installing turf at my house.
